2011 Volvo C30 EV
2011 Volvo C30 EV luxury coupe
The next step forward is to build a test fleet of at least 50 electric Volvo C30s, which will be used in real-life traffic from 2011.
Volvo presented a driveable electric car prototype in September 2009. The C30 now being shown in Detroit takes the company one step further in the development process. It features both a complete interior and full instrumentation, as well as enhanced battery packaging.’Our test fleet data will be valuable in Volvo Cars‘ development of electric cars. It will also provide crucial input for the infrastructure planners and help define which services are needed to make rechargeable cars the most attractive choice in the future,’ says Lennart Stegland.

‘The first prototype helped us identify the main technological challenges, such as battery packaging and safety issues. We have addressed these challenges without compromising the C30‘s cool and fun-to-drive personality. I am very happy with the result. The electric C30 in Detroit is a much more complete product,’ says Lennart Stegland, Director of Volvo Cars Special Vehicles.
The next step in 2010 is a factory-built series of test cars. Selected users will drive the test fleet during a two-year trial period in order to provide Volvo Cars with valuable experience. Not just technical but also behavioural.
The Swedish Energy Agency is supporting the project by contributing SEK 150 million towards its funding. The electric C30 looks like a regular Volvo C30 and it offers the very same safety, comfort and roominess as the standard car.
The most obvious difference inside the car is the new instruments facing the driver. The gauges and graphics are somewhat different to those in a conventional Volvo. The cool and user-friendly combined instrument shows in principle only road speed and energy consumption. However, it also integrates a number of new symbols such as a gauge for battery charge status and other relevant information for this type of vehicle.
The driving experience is also different to that in a conventional car. The electric C30 has no gears and the motor’s power is delivered seamlessly, with full power available immediately.
‘Sailing along virtually without a sound is a very special experience. The power is there instantaneously. We need to spend a lot of time verifying a transmission system that is both comfortable and safe for the driver to handle and at the same time utilizes the battery’s capacity optimally at different speeds,’ says Lennart Stegland.

An electric motor uses about one-fourth as much energy as an engine running on fossil fuels. This superior energy efficiency suggests that interest in electric cars will increase as fuel prices rise and demands for low CO2 emissions become increasingly stringent.
The Volvo C30 shown in Detroit is powered by Lithium-Ion batteries that can be recharged via either a regular household power socket or special roadside charging stations. Charging the battery fully takes about eight hours,
If the car is recharged with renewable electricity, CO2 emissions could be almost zero in the well-to-wheel perspective.
Top speed with a fully charged battery pack is about 130 km/h (81 mph). Acceleration from 0 to 60 mph takes less than 11 seconds. The car‘s range is up to 150 km (94 miles). This covers the daily transport needs of more than 90 percent of all motorists in Europe.
2011 Volvo C70
2011 Volvo C70 luxury cabriolet
Volvo has reinvigorated its signature C70 hardtop convertible for 2011 with a sleek new look and an extended array of standard luxury features that add up to even greater value. The enhancements begin on the outside where the front sports a redesigned appearance that conveys a more aggressive appearence. The new fascia, grille with enlarged iron mark and headlights display Volvo‘s enhanced design language influenced by the revolutionary XC60 and upcoming next generation S60.
Bodywork details such as the front fenders have also been redesigned, contributing to the new look. The nose is more wedge-shaped and has been given added three-dimensional depth by moving some elements of the front both longitudinally and vertically. The new headlights and the decor around the fog lights, for instance, have been angled upward and toward the rear while the detailing of the lower grille and new, larger air intake reinforce the self-assured stance.
2011 Volvo C70 Hardtop
The exclusive high-tech LED taillights, similar in function to those found on the XC60, are the most noticeable update at the rear. The entire light unit is clearly integrated with the oval that frames the enhanced C70‘s rear fascia. Rounding out the exterior revisions is the availability of Flamenco Red and Ember Black as dynamic new color choices.
Changes continue inside with updates that create a unique ambience. The instrument panel has been redesigned, giving it a wider, sleeker look. The surface of the panel has a new texture that enhances the feeling of quality. Exclusive new instruments, with gauges and graphics specific to the C70, are yet another example of how the model’s premium qualities have been enhanced.
The already lengthy roster of standard equipment grows even longer for 2011. A five-speed ‘Geartronic’ automatic transmission, Sovereign Hide leather, Sirius Satellite Radio and 17-inch ‘Sirona’ diamond-cut alloy wheels are now standard. New Cranberry leather can be specified as a no-charge option.
Meanwhile, the C70′s raison d’etre hasn’t changed. The sporting reflexes and weather-tight security of a turbocharged coupe coupled with the wide-open exhilaration and fresh-air freedom of a convertible appeal to passionate adventure seekers. A key ingredient to the C70′s magnetism is its three-piece retractable hardtop.
With the touch of a button, the retractable hardtop folds away quickly and smoothly into the trunk. Apart from the flexibility offered by the design it also makes for a quieter, more comfortable coupe. The large rear window glass offers outstanding outward visibility and improves body rigidity.

Driving pleasure excels in the C70 with its standard turbocharged T5 engine. Output for the 2.5-liter light-pressure turbo powerplant is 227 horsepower at 5,000 rpm with torque at 236 lb.-ft. from 1,500 to 4,800 rpm. The flat torque curve puts the power to the front wheels evenly and makes the car highly responsive.
As a Volvo, the C70 is fitted with an impressive array of safety features. An important part of side impact and rollover protection is the Inflatable Curtain (IC). In the C70 it has been given a unique design. The curtain has an extra stiff construction with double rows of slats that are slightly offset from each other. This allows them to remain upright and offer effective head protection even with the window open. The curtain also deflates slowly to provide protection should the car roll over. This is a unique solution in the automotive world, and a world first for a four-passenger convertible.
2011 Volvo Heico Sportiv S60
2011 Volvo Heico Sportiv S60 sports sedan
The new Volvo S60 is dynamic and sporty. The new Volvo S60 is not chivalrous, the new Volvo S60 is sexy. HEICO SPORTIV enhances the Volvo driving experience, adding additional seasoning in the form of meticulously composed ingredients.
Even at a glance, it becomes immediately apparent that HEICO SPORTIV has just the right ingre-dients to stimulate all the observer’s senses! The front view already indulges the onlooker with clear contours thanks to a two-part front spoiler. ‘We’ve given the Volvo S60 the expressiveness which potential owners of such a dynamic vehicle crave for,’ explains HEICO SPORTIV General Manager, Holger Hedtke.
The front spoiler is mounted on the original bumper and melts seamlessly into the entirety of the Volvo S60‘s contours. The design element made of low-weight, flexible polyurethane plastic (PUR-R-RIM) fulfills the latest pedestrian protection guidelines.

At the back, the PUR-R-RIM rear skirt in diffusor look cites the form of a diffusor, faithfully enfolding the left and right oval end-pipes of the quad outlet exhaust system. As an optional add-on, HEICO SPORTIV also offers a matching carbon inlay. For vehicles with the original rear skirt, a dual-pipe exhaust variant is available in the familiar ‘left-right arrangement’.

The essential ingredients, however, are the ECU upgrades offered by HEICO SPORTIV. With the D3/D5 diesel engines, these are implemented by reprogramming the engine control unit, with gasoline engines by means of e.motion.
HEICO SPORTIV e.motion stands for ‘efficiency in motion’ and describes an additional engine control unit that, thanks to straightforward plug & play technology, can be quickly installed and enabled by any authorized HEICO SPORTIV partner – worldwide!
Thanks to e.motion, the Volvo S60 2.0T generates a colossal 47 bhp more than its series-produced counterpart (currently 250 bhp/184 kW) and a maximum torque of 350 Nm (additional 50 Nm).

In the 4-wheel drive version of the Volvo S60 T6, the engine power is boosted to 330 bhp (243 kW) and 460 Nm, allowing the top-of-the-range model to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds (series version: 6.5 seconds) and reach a maximum speed of 250 km/h (electronically capped). Naturally, all HEICO SPORTIV ECU upgrades fulfill the rigorous Euro 5 emissions classification standard. Further tuning programs for the T3, T4 and T5 engine variants are under development.
2011 Volvo S60
2011 Volvo S60 luxury sedan
The all-new S60 T6 AWD is designed to move Volvo in a new direction – straight into the hearts and minds of driving enthusiasts everywhere. As the sportiest Volvo ever, the S60 delivers breathtaking performance, superb driving dynamics and innovative technology. It also introduces significant advancements in safety systems, offers state-of-the-art luxury and debuts new infotainment solutions.
Emotionally charged styling sets the tone for the promise of a great drive. Often described as the ‘Volvo with an attitude,’ the all-new S60 stands out from the crowd with a revolutionary design that creates a strong sense of motion. The S60‘s profile radiates the look of a four-door coupe with a new twist. The slim roofline is accompanied by a distinctive contour on the shoulders of the lower body, creating a ‘double wave’ that stretches from the headlights to the taillights.
When viewed from the front, the all-new S60 makes a powerful impression. The dramatically shaped grille flanked by V-shaped position lights sports a large Volvo iron mark. The S60‘s unmistakable profile is even visible in the dark. Volvo designers strategically applied LED technology to create distinctive yet fluid light streams front and rear. The front position lights, side marker lights, turn signal indicators mounted in the rearview mirrors and taillights use LEDs for increased visibility and nighttime drama.
Beauty continues beneath the S60′s sinuous flanks with a standard 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine that delivers an impressive 300 horsepower and 325 lb.-ft. of torque. Maximum torque is achieved from just 2,100 rpm and remains available throughout the rev range. As a testament to the powerplant’s efficiency, this is the same torque output as the 4.4-liter V8 in other Volvo models.

The muscular engine is matched with a standard six-speed ‘Geartronic’ transmission that offers completely automatic shifts or allows the driver to shift manually for an added sense of control. Also standard is Volvo’s signature electronically controlled All-Wheel Drive with Instant TractionTM for improved traction on wet, slippery or completely dry roads.
Driving dynamics have been fine-tuned on the all-new S60 with a choice of three unique designs. The standard Dynamic Chassis places the focus on optimizing control and agility without diluting the impression of a comfortable ride. Those who place the greatest emphasis on comfort can select the Touring Chassis, available as a no-charge option. The major difference between the two is in the dampers and the front and rear subframes. Both offer exceptional ride and handling qualities, yet the Touring Chassis has been tuned to provide a smoother ride on poor road surfaces.
Volvo‘s FOUR-C (Continuously Controlled Chassis Concept) active chassis, available as an option, has been modified for improved control and comfort. The system employs sensors that continuously monitor the car’s behavior and adjust the dampers in fractions of a second to suit the current driving situation. The driver can select from three different settings: Comfort, Sport and Advanced.
Dynamic Stability and Traction Control (DSTC) has been refined with a suite of electronic systems to help optimize handling and control. Advanced Stability Control uses a roll angle sensor to detect and react to oversteer at an earlier stage and understeer in situations such as slip build-up. These situations may occur if the driver suddenly releases the accelerator while steering, such as when leaving a highway slightly too late. It also improves handling in evasive maneuvers. DSTC gains a new Sport Mode setting to allow controlled rear wheel slip for performance driving.

Corner Traction Control by Torque Vectoring is another new technology to help improve handling by redistributing torque to the outer wheel to help ‘steer’ the car around a turn. This feature operates on both the front and rear wheels since the S60 is equipped with AWD. Enthusiast drivers will immediately notice a significant reduction in understeer as the system seamlessly applies the appropriate amount of power to the outside tires.
Among the other driver assistance systems offered on the all-new S60 is the debut of Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake. This world-first technology actively helps the driver avoid accidents. Volvo’s radar- and camera-based system can detect pedestrians in front of the car, warn the driver if anyone walks out into its path, then automatically activate the S60‘s full braking power if the driver fails to respond in time. The system can avoid a collision at speeds up to 22 mph. At higher speeds, the focus is on reducing the car’s speed as much as possible prior to the impact.

Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake is part of the S60′s optional Technology Package that also includes Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with new Queue Assist, Collision Warning with Full Auto Brake (CWAB), Distance Alert (DA), Driver Alert Control (DAC) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW).
The S60‘s standard safety systems include City Safety, another world-first technology that made its debut on the Volvo XC60. City Safety is a driver support system aimed at preventing or mitigating collisions with a vehicle ahead occurring at speeds of 19 mph or less. It utilizes a closing velocity sensor to help determine whether a collision is likely. Depending on the closing speed, City Safety will either pre-charge the brakes or automatically brake the S60 to help avoid a rear-end collision or lessen its impact.
Volvo has equipped the S60‘s luxurious cabin with an all-new infotainment system. A new standard Driver Control Interface (DCI) manages information from the audio unit, navigation system (if equipped) and other functions, displaying them onto a seven-inch high definition color monitor in the upper part of the center console. It allows the driver to explore the high-tech features of the car and personalize them to suit their needs. All functions can be operated by a thumb-activated rotator located on the right steering-wheel spoke or via buttons on the center control panel located below the screen.
2011 Volvo V60
2011 Volvo V60 large car
The Volvo V60 makes its entry onto the car market with its sights firmly set on giving the all-new S60 sedan model a tough match over the title of ‘The Most Dynamic Volvo Model Ever’.
‘Many of the customers who had an advance look at the new V60 during the development process feel that its attitude is at least as sporty as that of the all-new S60,’ says Volvo Cars Design Director Peter Horbury.
No less than 90 percent of the annual V60 production of 50,000 cars will find European buyers.
The response of the enthusiastic customers is music to the ears of the project group, which has always had its sights set on giving the V60 the emotive aura, sporty design and dynamic driving properties of a genuine sports wagon.
‘The typical sports wagon customer is an S60 buyer who would like some extra space and flexibility, but without the slightest compromise on sporty design and exciting driving properties,’ says Volvo Cars President and CEO Stephen Odell, and adds:
‘The competition is razor-sharp and the customers in this segment know exactly what they want. That is why we have further boosted the interior’s sense of exclusive quality and packed the car with safety- and comfort-related technical innovations. The result is a truly unique sports wagon, in total harmony with its sporty attitude.’

The pronounced wedge shape and the slim coupe-like roof line of the new V60 are accompanied by the shoulder profile along the car’s sides, creating a gentle yet powerful double wave from the headlamps at the front to the tail lamps at the rear.
‘From the design viewpoint the focus was on making the car as close to a coupe as possible, while retaining that handy extra space at the rear. Our sports wagon does not aim to compete with the traditional estate car. For the customer who wants a lot of load space, there is our V70 or XC70,’ says ?rjan Sterner, head of exterior design for the new Volvo V60.
He adds:
‘The dip in the middle of the double wave visually pushes the car down. This enhances the stance and makes the car look sleeker and lower. The sculpted bonnet and the short overhangs front and rear also emphasise the sports car feel.’
The dynamism of the design is further enhanced by what Volvo’s design team calls the ‘racetrack’ design. The car’s lines do not end abruptly but instead continue to flow organically, continually, echoing the smooth shapes of the racetrack.

A styling pack gives the V60 buyer the opportunity to boost the sporty attitude still further. Available in the accessories range, the styling pack includes skid plates front and rear, a front decor trim, side scuff plates, special exhaust tailpipes and unique 18-inch wheels.
‘The styling pack gives the car the robust look inspired by the ruggedness of the XC60,’ explains ?rjan Sterner.
Volvo’s designers have integrated LED (Light Emitting Diode) technology to create distinctive light patterns both front and rear. The vertical position lights at the front, the eyebrow-like side-marker lights, the turn indicators integrated into the door mirrors and the tail lamps at the rear all give the new V60 an unmistakable profile even in the dark.
2010 Volvo S80
2010 Volvo S80 modern sedan
The refreshed Volvo S80 is the result of an intensive dialogue between Volvo Cars‘ project group and the discerning customers in the premium sedan segment. ‘We are ready to give the competition a tough match. With the new S80, we’re placing the bar at the very highest level when it comes to exclusiveness, quality and driving properties,’ says Volvo Cars President and CEO Stephen Odell.
The refreshed Volvo S80 is being unveiled for the very first time at the Geneva Motor Show in early March and sales will start in spring 2009.
Building on great success in key markets such as Russia, Volvo Cars’ large sedan model takes centre stage with far greater self-assurance than ever, the result of a more distinctive and elegant design, a more exclusive interior and a sharper chassis and upgraded engine range.
2010 Volvo S80 luxury limousine
‘From the outside, the refreshed S80 looks both larger and more elegant. But we’ve also given it a tougher face. In Germany, they talk about the ‘b?ser blick’, that is to say the front of the car should look rather menacing when it fills the rear-view mirror of the car in front,’ explains Volvo Cars Design Director Steve Mattin. He adds:
‘However, the refreshed S80 should not just be seen, it has to be experienced. The atmosphere inside is both more comfortable and luxurious, with an increased aura of craftsmanship. We’ve also made the interior more driver-oriented, not least with a new steering wheel and upgraded instruments. Our chassis and engine experts have made sure the driving experience is as exclusively attractive as the interior is.’
Steve Mattin and his team have increased the exterior’s elegant charisma with a number of details that give the S80 a lower, longer and wider stance.
The front is more distinctive with a new grille featuring the larger iron mark, which is part of the more extrovert DNA of recent Volvo models. There is also new brightwork on the air intakes, lower part of the doors and under the tail lamps.
Inside the car the spotlight is on increased exclusivity and comfort. The soft, sumptuous leather seats with their matching stitching are accompanied by door panels echoing the same trim. The super-slim floating centre stack is upgraded with a silk metal frame that emphasises its original design and enhances its exclusive feel, while simultaneously creating a design link to the recently launched Volvo XC60.
2010 Volvo S80 interior picture
The instruments in the refreshed Volvo S80 get exclusive aluminium dials and Volvo Cars is also launching a new generation of steering wheels. The d?cor trim with silk matte metal-effect finish on the four-spoke steering wheel is also found in the gear selector, around the starter button.
‘It is the combination of a number of carefully thought-out details that together creates the overall aura. Since eight out of ten customers specify leather upholstery, the seats are a good example. Here we have focused on comfort by creating unbeatable seating and side support, accentuated further by the superb quality of the soft Scandinavian hide,’ says Steve Mattin.
Customers with more individual tastes will be able to select upholstery from the exclusive Executive range, which features classic and sober styles.
